Life in Lille

Lille will surprise you with its many different faces. It is the proud possessor of an exceptional heritage. Its XVIIth century Flemish architecture brightens the city with the sparkling colours of its exuberant decor. The façades of the houses in Old Lille bestow a special charm on the heart of the city, which has over the centuries preserved its authentic character.

It is indeed an astonishing city, a bridgehead spanning the Middle Ages and the urban landscape of the XXth century (Euralille and the Tower of the Crédit Lyonnais), a tasteful marriage of buildings from the past and the architecture of modernism.  In the old city, the ancient houses with their carved and coloured façades are an opportunity to learn something of the architecture of the past as well as an invitation to enjoy a leisurely stroll. The XVIIth century citadel designed by Vauban is part of the city's military past and is in the form of a 5-pointed star set in greenery by the city gates.

Lille also offers opportunities to enjoy its own gourmet delights in the form of potjevleesch and white beer brewed with wheat, not to mention its famous filled waffles rolled in brown sugar.

Greater Lille, the fourth largest metropolis in France with a population of more than a million, is a area of entrancing contrasts, from the historic heart of the city to the glass-clad towers of the new Euralille quarter. It  is also 85 municipalities, 1,100,000 inhabitants, 340 research laboratories, a recently-constructed 70-hectare business area and 100,000 students.

Lille is certainly an important incubator for the future and offers its residents a vibrant and flourishing cultural life.

Life on the French Riviera

Apart from the exceptional working environment that the seafront Nice campus provides students, the region offers a delightful mixture of tradition and modernity with picturesque costal villages and the exciting glamour of towns like neighbouring Monaco.  Where else is it possible to take to the slopes in the nearby ski resorts in the morning, bask in the sun on the beaches of the Mediterranean in the afternoon and even drive across the border into Italy for dinner?

Each day you can savour a new experience and the range of leisure activities is limited only by your own imagination: golf, tennis, climbing, horse riding, hiking, skiing, not to mention the numerous festivals that are held throughout the year: The Cannes Film Festival, the Nice Carnival, the Juan les Pins Jazz Festival to name but the most famous and not forgetting the more traditional Chestnut Festivals, the Wine Harvests and local Saint's Days...

Cultural activities are also easy to find in this the region where many well known French artists found their inspiration such as Matisse, Renoir and Picasso.  Museums and art galleries are plentiful and have the added advantage in Nice of being free every second weekend.  Musicians and writers throughout history also fell in love with the region and we are sure that you too will be bewitched by its charm.

On a more modern note Nice is also host to several international conferences each year and the nearby French Silicon Valley, Sophia Antipolis, provides jobs to 25000 people in 1200 companies in sectors ranging from technology to the environment.  The bustling city of Marseilles, France's second town is only a 1 ½ hour drive away and the capital Paris can be reached by plane in the same time.  Monaco, synonym for finance and luxury is just along the coast and close to the Italian border.  Italy's main economic region including Milan, Genoa and Turin are easily accessible by car or train and other European cities are close at hand thanks to the Nice International Airport, only a 10 minute walk from EDHEC Business School.

The south of France follows a rhythm of easy living, the pleasures of good food, culture, and hospitality - why not let yourself become part of the Riviera lifestyle?
